Fishing - Hook Choices

The idea of this test appeared a few years ago, when I asked the question: how to compare the quality of the various hooks? In my plan, comparison should be clear, understandable and simple, why should abandon the use of sophisticated equipment and arcane measurements. At first, I planned to devote a significant part of the article criticized the hooks of domestic production, but test results proved to be much more eloquently than any words.
Based on his knowledge and experience, as well as on the preferences of other experienced anglers - athletes, I have formulated the main characteristics, which you should look for when choosing a hook.
Immediately say, that by virtue of some specialization of conditions for fishing, I draw attention to a rather specialized group of hooks. This model, designed for the sport that is mainly for fishing float rod or mormyshkas such common species as perch, roach, bream, silver bream, small Karpik, bleak, etc.
Their main feature - the maximum reliability and efficiency at catching small and medium fish gear with a small margin of safety. Such models are not suitable for large prey, and even more so for its accelerated thin fishing line will not be allowed to do so. These hooks are very reliable even with neat bite and very protective of the most delicate baits.
What are the basic characteristics of a sports hook? I think that first of all, this is the thickness of the wire from which it is made. In second place is a form of hook, the main part of which is stinger beard. It is important all the details, starting with the size and shape of all parts of the hook, and ending with their proportions in relation to each other. In third place is the hardest characteristic hook - the quality of material used for manufacturing.
By what parameters determine the suitability of a particular model to certain fishing conditions? I can list the following:
- The number of retirements: when catching the little things it should not exceed 5-6%. Achieving the target mark of 10% will automatically send it to the ballot box;
- While wearing a hook: the hook is usually blunts breaks down or starts to unbend. This time is not less than one very intensive fishing;
- The number of empty bites and blows to the teeth. Increase their number often indicates that the hook is not suitable for this fish in size or shape. However, sometimes this is indicative of the nose of the hook.

Test method

Hooks were divided on the form of knee - round or crystal-like. Total conduct two types of impacts, which were subjected to hooks.
Abrasive action - abrasion of the tip by repeatedly sticking a hook tip into the viscous material containing fine solid particles. The second test was a big frontal impact load on the sting. The latter simulates a dead or almost dead hook for a hard surface. All the hooks of each model were taken from one package, purchased at the store. That is why the defects identified in the photographs and the deviations can be caught any buyer. Each hook is shown in the illustrations - before and after exposure. For all models, tests were carried out as follows:

TEST 1

- Photographed the exterior of the hook;
- 300 times the hook stuck into the abrasive material;
- Damaged hook photographed again.

TEST 2

- Photographed the exterior of the hook;
- A hook tied to fishing line (with one spool) the same for all the way, then hook the tip rested against a steel plate, and the line was smooth tension detached;
operation was repeated five times to get average results;
- Hook to re-photographed.
If we consider these results strongly, then their credibility will be low. It will be determined by the influence of a variety of factors. For example, random defects, fishing line, the defect is selected (perhaps - only for the entire game), the hook, and many others. However, I do not set goals to prove anything, because the influence of the same, and many other random factors on the result of fishing is huge.
